All About Omega 3

Do you experience pain in your joints? Do you have a whole cupboard full of supplements & want to streamline what to take? Are you looking for a way to reduce your pain medication?
As most of my patients are seeking help from me to treat their pain and arthritis, I am always looking for supplements that will support their healing journey. My favourite and most commonly suggested supplement for this regard is fish oil.
Your Natural Anti-inflammatory Pill
Omega 3 essential fatty acids found in fish oil blocks the inflammatory response similar to NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Advil etc.) but in a safer way. Fish oil does not affect the GI system, rather supports it. Just like NSAIDs, fish oil can help bring down swelling in the joint and reduce morning stiffness.

Not Just for Pain

Don’t get me wrong, leaning your diet towards these good fats is beneficial to your health. Essential fatty acid supplementation with Omega 3 pills augments a whole foods diet.
Supplementation is particularly important though when you are at a higher risk of health problems, arthritis and pain included. At the point where there is a health condition, you want to amp up your arsenal. Utilizing both diet and supplements to achieve results.
Caution is advised for those on blood thinners or if you are scheduled for surgery. Speak with your doctor or myself prior to initiating therapy.
So What is a High Quality Fish Oil
Skip the products that have a combination of flax oil and fish oil. Go straight for the fish oils that contain EPA and DHA. These omega 3 fatty acids do not need to be converted in the body and are easier for you to reach therapeutic doses.
It’s the EPA you are after if you trying to reduce inflammation, whereas DHA is vital for brain health. You will often get both EPA and DHA in your fish oil, but choose one that has a higher concentration of EPA if you are aiming at reducing your pain.
If your fish oil supplement tastes fishy — it’s likely rancid. It is best to choose a high grade fish oil otherwise it can cause health problems instead of solve them.
You want a brand that uses sustainably harvested fish, regularly tests for heavy metals & checks their potency through quality assurance. You also want a product that is highly absorbable, so that you get the most bang for your buck. When it comes to supplementing with fish oil, the cheapest is not always the best.
